Follow one application, from eID sign-in to a decision the citizen can read

A housing support application at a fictional department. Six screens, two officers, one refused connection and a letter the citizen can read. Scroll, and the screen follows the step.

Sample organisation: Department of Community SupportPeople: case officer, team lead, oversight officerTime: application to letter in one day

Step by step

  1. 01 · Application

    Ana applies with her eID.

She signs in with the national digital identity and agrees which registers may be read, for this application only. The consent is kept with the case.

    Ana Ferreira applies in Portuguese.

  2. 02 · Registers

    Facts from inside the country.

Income, tenancy, household and other support are read from national registers. Each fact keeps its source and time. Nothing leaves the national cloud.

Nobody has to request a paper copy.

  3. 03 · A refusal

    An outside call is stopped.

A translation agent tries to send the notes to an outside service. It is not on the department's list, so the call is refused before anything leaves. The in-country model is used instead.

Miriam Osei, oversight officer, is told and closes it.

  4. 04 · Eligibility

    A view, with its sources.

The pack tests the facts against the scheme rules and suggests an award. Because this is high-risk AI, the view waits for an officer.

Conor Hayes, case officer, reads the view.

  5. 05 · Decision

The officer decides. A lead checks.

Conor agrees with the view and approves. The award is above EUR 500, so the rules add a second check by the team lead.

Conor Hayes decides. Lena Novak signs the check.

  6. 06 · Letter

    A reason Ana can read.

The letter is drafted from the sealed record in Portuguese: what was decided, why, what was used and how to appeal. The record is sealed.

An appeal would start from this exact record.

The record at the end

One record for the whole case.

The application ends with one sealed record: the decision, the officers, the facts and where they came from, the rule and the letter.

Change one word in a sealed record and the seal breaks. Try the seal check on the home page →

Who did what

The AI did the reading. People made the calls.

The pack did the reading, testing, refusing and drafting. Every decision about Ana's support was made by an officer, and explained to her in her own language.

What the AI did

  • Read four national registers, inside the country
  • Refused a call that would have sent data abroad
  • Tested the facts against the scheme rules
  • Suggested an award, with its sources
  • Drafted the letter in Portuguese

What people decided

  • Ana Ferreira chose what could be read
  • Miriam Osei reviewed the refused call
  • Conor Hayes decided the case
  • Lena Novak signed the second check
  • Nobody re-keyed a fact from a register
