Follow one loan, from application to a decision a person signs

A working capital loan at a fictional bank, Harbour Bank. Six screens, four people and two AI advocates. Scroll, and the screen follows the step.

Sample organisation: Harbour BankPeople: RM, onboarding reviewer, analyst, committeeTime: application to offer in four days

Step by step

  1. 01 · Application

    Kilbride Joinery asks to borrow.

The online form opens a file. The pack checks what the bank already holds and asks only for the accounts, the ledger and the machine quote.

Niamh Walsh, relationship manager, sends the request.

  2. 02 · Onboarding

    A name matches a list.

Identity and ownership clear. A director's name matches a sanctions list, but the date of birth and nationality do not. The pack shows why it fired.

Declan Byrne's match is closed as false by Ruth Kavanagh, with a reason.

  3. 03 · Credit file

    Every figure cites its page.

The accounts and ledger are read and tested against the credit policy. Two tests pass. Customer concentration is above the limit and is flagged as an exception.

Sean Doyle, credit analyst, checks the figures and adds a mitigation.

  4. 04 · Risk view

    The score explains itself.

The bank's own model grades the loan and shows what moved the grade. It is marked advisory, so it cannot approve or decline by itself.

Sean Doyle notes where he disagrees with the model.

  5. 05 · Committee

    Two AI advocates. People vote.

The exception needs the committee. One AI argues for, one against, using only the file. The chair rules with a covenant.

Aoife Brennan, head of credit, chairs and rules.

  6. 06 · Sealed

    Sealed and offered.

The decision, the file, the model and its explanation, the exception and the rules it answers are sealed in one record. The offer letter goes out.

Internal audit can check the record without an account.

The record at the end

One record for the whole decision.

The loan ends with one sealed record: the decision, who made it, under which mandate, on what evidence and against which rules.

Change one word in a sealed record and the seal breaks. Try the seal check on the home page →

Who did what

The AI did the reading. People made the calls.

The pack did the gathering, reading, testing and drafting. Every judgement about the customer and the loan was made by a person with the mandate to make it.

What the AI did

  • Opened the file and asked only for what was missing
  • Ran identity, ownership and screening checks
  • Read the accounts and ledger and cited every figure
  • Tested the file against the credit policy
  • Explained the model's grade
  • Argued for and against in committee

What people decided

  • Niamh Walsh requested the documents
  • Ruth Kavanagh closed the false match, with a reason
  • Sean Doyle checked the file and added a mitigation
  • Aoife Brennan chaired and ruled with a covenant
  • Nobody re-typed a figure
